TLDR: Avoid at all cost.

Details:

First off, I hope this review reaches any potential customers.. before it’s too late. I used the SpotHero app to secure a parking deal, into the city, on a Saturday. If I read the reviews first hand, prior to using the app, I would not be writing this review.

I based my pick on pricing, proximity, but most importantly - height restrictions.

We run a cargo box on top of our minivan. It’s at 6’5” (round up 6’6”) but usually don’t bother with any garages under a 7 feet restriction, to be safe.

I usually plan my routes and departure time methodically and this time was no different. We arrive at our reservation on the dot. The parking attendant pounced from his chair at the very sight of us. Upon that, he then waived his finger and rejected us, Dikembe Mutumbo (RIP) style. I already knew what he was going to say. The cargo box had to go.

He stated our car was over the height restriction because of the cargo box. My wife told him that we had reservations, but he cut her off. I mentioned that the app listed the max height restriction, and again he interjected: “look, you can park here if you want, but we don’t want to damage this nice Sienna.” Not fighting words yet, b/c I figured he was a man of good taste. Anybody who admires the keen practicality of minivan, must have our best interest at heart. (Thinking back, it must have been sarcasm)

What were fighting words.. was when he took a jab at my planning. He told me to take off the box and leave it at home. “If he were me… he would use his head and not book a garage with an oversized vehicle.” It was the way he spoke, very condescending.

Meanwhile, he treated another person (not even a customer) way different. They shared a chuckle while looking at that eyesore of a cargo box mounted up top the family mobile. All this while we scrambled to cancel the reservation before SpotHero charged us.

Lesson learned. I think ultimately, they didn’t want our business. The price we paid was basically a bait and switch. We secured, or at least we thought we did, a good price. But to them, the price wasn’t worth their time/business. The app clearly had a picture up with the max height clearance at 7’6”. When we got there, the restriction pole was already taken down. There looked to be ample space for our minivan even with the cargo box (however, we can’t be certain upon descending further down) So yeah, he probably did do us a favor and saved the stress of having any damage to the cargo box, or worse, the car itself.

Before we left, he gave some more words of wisdom off his book of garage commandments. We have to “pay to play”, meaning the usual cost for our sized vehicle would be $72+. Next time: “don’t use cheap apps. This is Trump Tower.”

I’ll do my best to get this review on SpotHero, but I also based my pick on the 4.5/5 star review they had on the app. Not SpotHero’s fault, but the next time I book via that app, I’ll cross check the google/yelp reviews for certain.

CitiPark at 33 W 56th St review: Parked here for 2 hours and came back to a smashed window. Promises that the manager will call did not happen. When i call them, the manager is never there and the attendants are hostile.

We prepaid our parking on SpotHero and while they did honor this, parking was an unpleasant experience. The garage was so full that half the entrance was taken up with parked cars, making in-and-out almost impossible. So it took about fifteen minutes to park our car. Picking up went somewhat more smoothly but still I was not surprised to see the other negative reviews for this garage. We will avoid it in the future.

These guys are scam artists. We pre-paid our reservation until midnight and had a receipt to prove it on our phone. We told them we would pick up the car around 7 PM. We came back at 7:10 and they charged us an extra $20 to get the car back. We will never park with Impark again. Once they have your car to hold for ransom, there is nothing you can do but pay what they demand. Clearly they don't honor their pre-paid contracts.

When I came to get my car, the attendant kept tapping the tip jar and asking for a tip. I told that he really isn't supposed to asking for a tip. I always do tip garage attendants, but I do not appreciate pressured into doing so. The attendant started arguing with me, talking over me, and then said "do I need to call an ambulance?" Strangest experience I have ever had- I regret the tip I did give.
